Welcome to NADFAS at Grayshott
Grayshott Decorative and Fine Arts Society meets monthly for interesting
and sometimes amusing talks on a wide variety of arts subjects.
The talks are given by lecturers with the finest credentials in
their specialist fields.
There are ten lectures each year (January
to June and September to December) held at 2pm on the first Thursday
of the month in Grayshott Village Hall. Tea and biscuits are served
after each meeting so that members can discuss the lecture and enjoy
the company of other members.
The Society also organises a series of visits
and study days during the year.
There is not usually a waiting list for new members. All new members
are invited to a coffee morning in the year they join so that they
can meet the Committee and other new members. The current subscription
is £28 pa.
The
Society is a member of NADFAS
(The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies)
and a copy of the national magazine, The NADFAS Review, is delivered
to members' homes quarterly. It provides articles on arts subjects,
news of NADFAS activities nationally and ideas about what is available
for members, including courses at both national and local level.
It also gives information on holidays arranged specifically for
NADFAS members.
One of the objectives of NADFAS is to endeavour to make our arts
heritage better known and more widely available to others, both
young and old. As a result some of the members of Grayshott DFAS
work as:
- Heritage Volunteers give their
time to be stewards at local National Trust properties or help
in a variety of ways at local museums.
- Church Recorders work to provide
evidence for posterity of the fabric and the background of local
churches.
- Young Art Projects are supported
in local schools by members helping with in-house projects, together
with some limited financial help.
