GRAYSHOTT DECORATIVE & FINE ARTS SOCIETY
Marianne North
1830 - 1890
Botanical Artist
The 120 year old Marianne North Gallery in Kew Gardens houses 832 oil paintings showing over 900 species of plants, all painted by this remarkable woman in their countries of origin world-wide.
To support the essential redevelopment of the building housing this national treasure, all the paintings are available for adoption for a period of 10 years.
The refurbished gallery is scheduled to re-open in the autumn of 2009.
Grayshot Decorative and Fine Arts Society has chosen this painting, number 502 "Flowers of the Pomegranate", painted in Tenerife, to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the National Association in 2008 and, by doing so, is helping to enable this amazing collection to be displayed in the Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens, in conditions which will preserve these beautiful works of historic importance for future generations.
